IELTS Progress Check of Reading and Writing in Academic Format<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Reading<\/h5>\n\n\n\n

Test Format \u2013 Reading (60 minutes)<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Reading component consists of 40 questions. A variety of question\n types is used in order to test a wide range of reading skills. These \ninclude reading for gist, reading for main ideas, reading for detail, \nskimming, understanding logical arguments and recognising writers\u2019 \nopinions, attitudes and purpose.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Academic version includes three long texts that\u00a0range from the descriptive and factual to the discursive and analytical. The texts are adapted from authentic texts taken from books, journals, magazines and newspapers. These have been selected for a non-specialist audience and\u00a0are appropriate for people entering university courses or seeking professional registration.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Test Format \u2013 Writing (60 minutes)<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Writing component includes two tasks. Topics are of general \ninterest to, and suitable for, test takers entering undergraduate and \npostgraduate studies or seeking professional registration.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Task 1<\/strong>
\nYou will be presented with a graph, table, chart or diagram and asked to\n describe, summarise or explain the information in your own words. You \nmay be asked to describe and explain data, describe the stages of a \nprocess, how something works or describe an object or event.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Task 2<\/strong>
You will be asked to write an essay in response to a point of view, argument or problem. Responses to both tasks must be in a formal style.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
